NEXT MEETING  _____________________________

Monday, Jan. 12 – Noon – Chattanooga Convention Center

TOPIC: Refractory Ceramics: An Opportunity for Improved Energy Efficiency
Dr. James G. Hemrick with Oak Ridge National Laboratory will speak about what defines refractory ceramic materials, a brief history of these materials, and why we care about these materials at a Department of Energy Research Laboratory. Dr. Hemrick will review key properties of interest for these materials, and how they fit in key areas of research and current projects at ORNL and the Department of Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Renewable Energy (DOE/EERE) Industrial Technology Program.

FUTURE MEETINGS ___________________________________

Monday, Jan. 19 - No meeting in observance of M.L King Day

Monday, Jan. 26 - The Birth of Production Photogrammetry at TVA – Alan Voss, formerly with the Tennessee Valley Authority, will speak about TVA’s mission and mapping project in the early 1930's. Allen will discuss why good maps were urgently needed in to accomplish the mission. In just over two years, the entire 40,000 square mile TVA watershed was mapped using the photogrammetric method. He will describe the pioneering efforts of TVA and its partners in the development of photogrammetry.

PREVIOUS MEETING _______________________________

Jan. 5 – Mark Lynskey with Lynskey Performance Products reviewed bicycle designs used in manufacturing by LPP in Chattanooga.  Human ability is a key factor in custom frame design.  Comfort and performance are balanced by changing the following variables: tube length (which affects geometry and fit), tube shape and thickness (which affects vibration absorption and steering), and components.
