NEXT MEETING  ___________________________

Monday, Jan. 26 – Noon – Chattanooga Convention Center

TVA’s Role in Developing Modern Mapping Techniques – Alan Voss, formerly with the Tennessee Valley Authority, will speak about TVA’s mission and mapping projects. In the early 1930's when TVA was established by Congress to control floods, improve navigation and promote the general regional development of the Tennessee Valley, few maps existed. Alan will discuss why good maps were urgently needed to accomplish the mission. In just over two years, the entire 40,000 square mile TVA watershed was mapped using photogrammetric methods.  He will describe the pioneering efforts of TVA and its partners in the development of photogrammetry and how it laid the foundation for maps of today.
