PREVIOUS MEETING_______________________

Jan. 26 - Alan Voss formerly with the Tennessee Valley Authority described TVA's early history when detailed maps were being created of the Tennessee Valley to support the planning, engineering, and construction activities with which TVA was charged. Alan showed how the fledgling technologies of aerial photography and photogrammetry were applied for the first time to a production-scale mapping operation. This pioneering effort became a major turning point in the evolution of photogrammetry because it provided the breeding ground for improved methods and techniques that would allow wide area maps to be made with much greater speed and efficiency. The work proved so successful that aerial photography and photogrammetry became the ultimate solution for medium and large-scale mapping programs worldwide.
