There
are several processes required to keep the fish, butterflies, birds and sharks
in the swim of things at the Tennessee Aquarium. Exhibit systems maintain
temperatures from 45 to 80 degrees with near 100% humidity and 100%
reliability. To achieve the proper conditions requires precise control of the
key systems: cooling, heating, pumping, filtering, blowing, sucking,
exhausting, bubbling, and ozonating.
Scott
McKenzie, Vice President of Special Projects, March Adams, will discuss the
processes and machinery that protect the aquatic life and keep the new
Tennessee Aquarium operating. McKenzie will describe the equipment layout and
design considerations that went into creating the artificial environments for
these creatures.
Also, please
join Scott McKenzie on March 30th for a tour of the Tennessee Aquarium.

PREVIOUS MEETING_______________________
Keith
Nunley, Engineering Manager at Lodge Manufacturing, described how Lodge
developed the cookware coating process. Vegetable oil, hemp seed, and other
oils were tested and evaluated for carbonization rate, cost, and quality.
Lodge produces 17,000 castings per day and applies the patented seasoning
coating to all cookware products. Lodge carefully controls oil content, heat,
and other factors to apply the coating properly. A robot-controlled electrostatic
spray was tested and adopted to apply the coating uniformly. The unique
seasoning process adds about $0.17 to the cost of each casting. Lodge sales in
2008 exceeded $44 million.
