NEXT MEETING____________________________

Monday, July 6, 2009 - Noon - DOUBLETREE HOTEL, Second Floor (407 Chestnut St., Chattanooga, TN 37402)

“Understanding Home and Office Data Networks” - Chuck Chamberlin, Chattanooga State

There used to be a time when owning a computer was something special. Now most of us have not just one computer or laptop, but several. With a great number of computers in use, the need to communicate with each computer increases.  Today, data networks have become ubiquitous.  Our lack of understanding about data networks can lead to trouble.

Our own Chuck Chamberlin will describe how data networks function and how they allow us to communicate with a variety of computers, printers, and computer peripherals. He will provide us with tips that will help us operate our network of computers in a secure and more effective way.

Chuck is the Director of Telephone & Network Systems at Chattanooga State.  Prior to Chattanooga State, Chuck was Manager of TVA’s Telephone and Network Services.

PREVIOUS MEETING_______________________

Dan Jacobson welcomed approximately 35 club members to the BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) Cameron Hill Campus.  Bob Worthington, BCBS; Roger Reese; Griffin Lifsey, March Adams & Associates; and Tera Maner, March Adams & Associates, were all recognized.

BCBS broke ground in August 2006 and completed construction in May 2009.  Over 100 firms supported the construction of the 984,484 sq. ft. office facility and the 1,411,727 sq. ft. parking garage.  About 4,000 employees utilize the new facility; however, two additional BCBS properties off campus are still in use, the Golden Gateway and the Miller Buildings

The Cameron Hill facility includes 5 individual buildings.  The site has four distinct areas known as "The Forest", "The Great Lawn", "The Entry", and "The Courtyard".  Over 20,000 trees and shrubs, 2 ponds, and several fountains surround the buildings.  The landscape architect planned the building and landscape layout to allow employees from inside the hallways of each building to have unobstructed views of the city, the Tennessee River, and the mountains around the city.

A Wellness Center is located on campus to support wellness needs worldwide.
