NEXT MEETING____________________________

Monday, August 3, 2009 - Noon - DOUBLETREE HOTEL, Second Floor (407 Chestnut St., Chattanooga, TN 37402)

"Personal Experiences in NASA’s Early Rocket and Space Programs" - Dan Loposer, Retired engineer from NASA

Dan Loposer will provide us with a personal perspective of the early days of American rocketry and space exploration.  He had begun his career with rocket propulsion systems shortly after WW II when he joined NASA’s precursor organization, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.  In the 1950's Dan was involved with the NASA space program at Huntsville, Cape Canaveral and Houston.  During this time he worked with many of the early space pioneers including the team of German scientists headed by Dr. Von Braun in Huntsville and the Johnson Space Center in Houston, headed by Dr. Robert Gilruth.  He also worked with a group of engineers who helped design the spacecraft used in the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs.  Dan will discuss his experiences through these early days of rocket research and development.  He will also describe some of the unique and interesting people with whom he became acquainted during his long professional career.

PREVIOUS MEETING_______________________

Dr. Amar Singh made an informative presentation to a very interested group of Engineers Club members and guests.  Dr. Singh described and demonstrated through video the use of robotic technology in treating urological cancers.  He discussed how mergers of imaging technology and computer aided surgical systems have revolutionized modern urological cancer surgery.  Robotic surgery offers many advantages over traditional methods including the ability of a surgeon to see far more detail of the operating area and to perform far more intricate and accurate surgical maneuvers.  These advances translate to less blood loss for the patient, shorter recovery time and a greater chance of survival.

Dr. Singh is Chief, Minimally Invasive Surgery-Urological Oncology of Academic Urologists at Erlanger Medical Center.
