“Energy Storage
Overview” –
Dale Bradshaw, Senior Program Manager and Consultant
to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Dale will give an overview of all energy storage
technologies including pumped hydro, compressed air energy storage, and
advanced batteries. He will discuss the pros and cons of each technology,
and explain why advanced energy storage may be a key enabler for the smart grid
and renewable power.
Dale holds a BS and MS from the
University of Oklahoma and an MBA in Finance from the University of
Tennessee. He retired in 2004 as a senior manager of R&D at TVA,
after 29 years of service.

Monday, March 29 — Field Trip — Westinghouse
Electric Company, Welding Institute & BWR Training Facility
Club
members and guests toured the Westinghouse Electric Company Welding Institute
and the BWR (Boiling Water Reactor) training facilities. Tour guides were
Jim Ford, Dwight Starnes and Mike Lary.
The
Welding Institute includes 48 welding training stations, and provides 4-6
months of training. Students agree to work for Westinghouse as a welder
for 2000 hours after training is complete. (see http://www.wecweldinginstitute.com/)
The BWR maintenance training facilities include control rod drive mechanisms,
fuel rod assemblies, jet pumps, robotic devices, tools and a full size BWR
shell with internal assemblies, including 600,000 gallons of water and
associated spent fuel pool.

HOTEL, CHATTANOOGA,
407 Chestnut St., Chattanooga, TN 37402. Free parking is available in the
gated parking lot on the south side of the Hotel.
For noontime meetings, the gate will be open from 11:30 a.m.
- 1:00 p.m. Plan to arrive at about 11:30 a.m., if you intend to park in the
limited space available.
