MEETING________________________
Monday
April 26 –
Noon – DOUBLETREE HOTEL (407 Chestnut Street,
Chattanooga, TN 37402)
“B&W’s
Modular Nuclear Reactor” - Juan F. Villarreal,
Director of Commercial Operations & Marketing, Babcock & Wilcox -
Modular Nuclear Energy.
Babcock
& Wilcox Co.'s new reactor concept is described as a scalable, modular,
integral reactor. The design is largely based on proven technology, which
should simplify the nuclear licensing process. It will be built in
125-megawatt modules, allowing the capacity to more closely match demand, and
permitting much of the construction to take place off-site. These features
should reduce price uncertainty and lower risk to investors. Mr.
Villarreal will provide further details about the design, its application, and
benefits to customers. He will also give some background on the early
development of small modular reactors.
Mr. Villarreal has a BS in Nuclear Engineering from Kansas State
University and an MS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley. Prior to
joining B&W, he worked for many years with General Electric in the United
States, Europe and Latin America.

MEETING____________________________
Monday
April 19 –
Jim Frierson introduced four Kruesi award nominees.
Fred
Land, Owner, Interlock Industries, Inc., manufacturer of the eco based floor
adhesive, Spray-Lock, used in many retail establishments, including Wal-Mart,
Loew’s, Mohawk, and Safeway. Wal-Mart saved 4 million pounds of
adhesives over the past several years by applying Spray-Lock adhesive, which
utilizes a stable VOC water-based spray. Spray-Lock is a technology used with
wood walls and floor panels under a low consumption procedure. Concrete
moisture and PH create problems for adhesives. Failure rates were 23% before
Spray-Lock was applied. Spray-Lock has instant shear strength and very low
odor.
Rick
Proctor, CEO, Glenveigh Medical, presented 5 new products used in obstetrics
to treat several conditions, including pre-eclampsia, a leading cause of fetal
failure. Glenveigh Medical moved the corporate HQ from the Research Triangle to
Chattanooga recently. Four medical devices are currently in the
development stage. Golf, a catheter device, is used to treat vaginal
bleeding quickly by adding pressure to the vaginal side walls. Market
potential is over 100,000 units per year. FDA approval is pending.
Greg
Renegar, Chief Engineer, Astec Industries, introduced the Double Barrel Green
System designed to recycle and process asphalt and reduce consumption of
petroleum products up to 14%. The survival of the road construction industry
depends on conservation of our limited resources. Mike Varner, UTC
graduate, described the method of converting the CEO’s dream into a real
system. Heat is used to remove moisture from the aggregate and coat the
aggregate efficiently. VOC’s and odors are reduced by 80% or more. About
250 of these injection systems have been installed worldwide.
Dan
and Sylvia Knoch, Owners, Innovative Software Design, reviewed the
3-laser scanner, which reduces time to process a dental impression to a
30-minute wait. Storage of the dental impression scan reduces storage space by
98%. Healthcare costs should be reduced as dentists utilize the
Innovative Software products.
