MEETING________________________
Monday
May 3 –
Noon – DOUBLETREE HOTEL (407 Chestnut Street,
Chattanooga, TN 37402)
Near
Zero Energy Homes - How Close Can We Get? David Dinse, Project Manager, TVA
Technology Innovations
David
Dinse will discuss three experimental homes in the Campbell Creek area of
Knoxville that are being monitored to evaluate residential building
technologies, energy efficiency technologies, smart grid concepts and consumer
energy-use behaviors in a realistic environment. TVA will use the results
to develop cost-effective residential energy efficiency and demand-response
programs and educate builders, developers, and consumers. One home
represents a typical house currently built in the Tennessee Valley (Builder
Home). The second home is also a typical house, but has been retrofitted
to improve efficiency (Retrofit Home). The third house has been built
using the latest in construction technologies to make it as efficient as
possible and still provide excellent curb appeal. This home employs
photovoltaic panels and solar water heating to help make it a near zero-energy
house (nZEH).
David Dinse
is a registered professional engineer with a degree in Civil Engineering from
the University of Connecticut, who has been employed at the Tennessee Valley
Authority (TVA) since 1981. He is an active member of ASHRAE (American
Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) and is
TVA’s leading technical authority on geothermal heat pump technology.
Officer
Election - Mark Wojnovich has accepted nomination as Secretary. Other
nominees will be solicited, followed by a vote of the members present, using
secret ballots.

MEETING____________________________
Monday
April 26 –
Juan
F. Villarreal, Director of Commercial Operations
& Marketing, Babcock & Wilcox - Modular Nuclear Energy. Mr.
Villarreal described Babcock & Wilcox Co.'s new reactor concept a
scalable, modular, integral reactor. The design is largely based on
proven technology, which should simplify the nuclear licensing process.
It will be built in 125-megawatt modules, allowing the capacity to more closely
match demand, and permitting much of the construction to take place
off-site. These features should reduce price uncertainty and lower risk
to investors.
