“Remote Control Software for Experiments on the International Space Station”

Software developed by  UTC under a contract to Boeing is now on-board the International Space Station.  The software, developed by Dr. Henry, allows researchers on earth to observe and control the operation of experiments in progress on the Space Station.

Dr. Henry will describe the successful loading and operation of the software and the response by NASA officials.  During the CEC presentation he will also demonstrate the operation of the software.

Dr. Henry, professor of Chemical Engineering at UTC, has a BS from Rice and a PhD from Princeton.  He has been working with remote control and data acquisition of laboratory experiments for more than 15 years.

PREVIOUS MEETING____________________

Monday June 28- Chris M. Finen, P.E., Eaton Corporation

“Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupters to Improve Home Safety”

Chris described how Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters can detect hidden electrical faults that are not picked up by traditional fuses and circuit breakers. Home electrical fires account for an estimated 53,000 fires each year, causing more than 500 deaths, 1400 injuries, and $1.4 billion in property damage.  A sizable fraction of these could be prevented using Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters, and they are now required for most residential circuits by the latest edition of the National Electric Code (NEC).
