NEXT MEETING ____________________

Monday July 19 – Scott McKenzie March Adams & Associates

“Seasonal Adjustment of Gasoline with On-Line Butane Blending”

Have you heard of “summer gas” or “winter gas”?  Why is gasoline more expensive in certain parts of the country?

Required gasoline properties fluctuate throughout the year and across the nation to reflect weather conditions and to comply with environmental regulations.  Butane is often added to gasoline as a vapor-pressure modifier.  Since butane is generally cheaper than gasoline there is a profit motive to maximize the addition rate while not incurring penalties for creating an “out of spec” product.

Mr. McKenzie will discuss the installation parameters for an on-line butane blending system and review the components, testing requirements and the challenges that come with working in this highly regulated industry.

Mr. McKenzie is a senior engineer with March Adams and Associates, with 30 years experience.  He holds Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech and is a registered Professional Engineer in 18 states
