MEETING ____________________
Monday
July 19 – Scott
McKenzie – March Adams & Associates
“Seasonal
Adjustment of Gasoline with On-Line Butane Blending”
Have
you heard of “summer gas” or “winter gas”? Why is
gasoline more expensive in certain parts of the country?
Required
gasoline properties fluctuate throughout the year and across the nation to
reflect weather conditions and to comply with environmental regulations.
Butane is often added to gasoline as a vapor-pressure modifier. Since
butane is generally cheaper than gasoline there is a profit motive to maximize
the addition rate while not incurring penalties for creating an “out of
spec” product.
Mr.
McKenzie will discuss the installation parameters for an on-line butane
blending system and review the components, testing requirements and the challenges
that come with working in this highly regulated industry.
Mr.
McKenzie is a senior engineer with March Adams and Associates, with 30 years
experience. He holds Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
from Georgia Tech and is a registered Professional Engineer in 18 states

Jim Henry – UTC
“Remote
Control Software for Experiments on the International Space Station”
Software
developed by UTC under a contract to Boeing is now on-board the
International Space Station. The software, developed by Dr. Henry, allows
researchers on earth to observe and control the operation of experiments in
progress on the Space Station. Dr. Henry described the successful loading and
operation of the software and the enthusiastic response by NASA officials.
Dr.
Henry, professor of Chemical Engineering at UTC, has a BS from Rice and a PhD
from Princeton. He has been working with remote control and data
acquisition of laboratory experiments for more than 15 years
