EDUCATION

The Chattanooga Engineers Club has several initiatives in the area of local education.

In the area of K through 12, the Club has been involved with the sponsorship of the Regional Science Fair for more than fifty years.

The recent changes in Hamilton County schools, including aftereffects of the City school merger, are still causing the local students to have to work against the system to participate in the Science Fair. "Block scheduling" has made it very difficult for a teacher to work with a student wanting to participate. Our suggested solution is increased "mentoring", with members of the Engineers Club working for several weeks to several months with a student wanting to enter the Fair.

If you have an interest in participating in this effort, email the CEC with your name, area of interest, and whether you would rather participate during days or evenings.

Other projects for the CEC include scholarships for the CSTCC and another for UTC. Primarily for engineering students, the scholarships have also included computer science and other science majors. Funds for these scholarships are raised by annual contributions to the scholarship fund. When your annual dues invoice arrives, PLEASE consider an additional gift to the scholarship fund. Our fund is administered by the Chattanooga Community Foundation and is a fine tax deduction!

Volunteering Opportunities

The Creative Discovery Museum is seeking volunteers for "mentoring" in conjunction their many displays and their Science Theater.
