As we begin our fourth year in the Tennessee First Lego League, we are also taking on a new role.
The Chattanooga Manufacturers Association will join with the Chattanooga Engineers Club again this year at promoting the First Lego League competition locally, but this year's theme "Ocean Odyssey" will also bring another local organization, The Tennessee Aquarium, into a leadership role. The Aquarium is currently considering a proposal from the Tennessee First Lego League for a statewide participation in the research phase of the project, as well as hosting the local pre-competition gathering of local teams.
The annual competition (December 3, 2005, at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville) has two major components. The first, a reaseach and presentation project on the year's theme, and the second, a problem-solving competition using a robot designed and programmed by the team members to solve a series of problems on a 4 foot by 8 foot work surface.
For information about the competition, visit the First Lego League website. This is going to be an exciting year!
This year's program will finish with an E-week exhibition of all local teams at the Creative Discovery Museum. This year's demo was cancelled due to new display construction at the CDM.
The Lego program in previous years
This year we are joined by the following organizations which have provided support for registration, travel, and other direct expenses. These firms value the benefit of technical educations and the skills and values gained by the students that participate.
In addition, Hometown Threads in the Hamilton Place Wal-Mart has made a gift in kind, as they have for the last three years.
