This year, the Chattanooga Engineers Club is working with teams from:
Each team will create and maintain a web site as a part of the research and presentation portion of the challenge. Click on the links above to follow their progress
This year, the traditional "Chattanooga Local Event" was held at the studio of WRCB, Channel 3. The teams got a chance to practice competition without scoring or awards, meet and work with the climate "experts" from Channel 3, and meet the other teams from the area. In the past, this has resulted in an unusually effective research and presentation by local teams. For Channel 3 coverage, visit here.
On December 6, ten teams went back to Cookeville for the state competition (47 students and coaches and more than 40 parents were there last year). We, once again, represented the area well and brought back a few awards. For detailed information on the awards, visit the TN FLL site.
One of our teams placed third in the "robot game", our best finish ever! This year, two teams received awards in "Research and Presentation", maintaining our local reputation for excellence in the research side of the challenge. We also won our first award in robotic design and programming. This is our first design award in eight years, showing the payoff for our design curriculum and summer camps, with CDM and CSTCC. Overall scores have not yet been released, but I am confident that we scored well and with ten teams (out of 53) are a force to be "reckoned with".
Again, for detailed information on the awards, visit the TN FLL site.
Last year, two teams placed in the top quartile in overall performance, which includes teamwork and research project performance. The Tybots were 10th overall and the David Brainerd Christian School Wildcats were 11th. This is great performance, in all phases of the competition and against 60 of the best schools and teams in the state. Lora Aycock and Jeff Allen are great coaches, both with teams with no previous experience.
Last year's theme was "Power Puzzle" and dealt with the use of energy. This year's theme (2008) will focus on weather and climate change. For information about the 2008 challenge and the First Lego League, visit the FLL web site.

As we continue to diversify into several programs, to keep the robots in use in EVERY season, we are also starting a new website, dedicated to the CEC robotics programs. CHECK IT OUT!
